St Andrew’s is an academy which is part of the Good Shepherd Trust (GST), the Multi Academy Trust (MAT) set up by Guildford Diocese.
It is the Directors of the GST who are ultimately responsible for the management and administration of the academies within the GST and the Directors who are accountable to the Department of Education for the quality of education provided.
To discharge their responsibilities for each school within the GST, the Directors appoint a Local Governing Body (LGB). St Andrew’s LGB came into existence on 1st March 2017, the date on which the school became an academy and joined the GST. (Previously the Governing Body was accountable to Surrey County Council.)
The LGB consists of the head, a staff governor (elected by staff), foundation governors, parent governors (elected by parents) and general members.
The GST Directors formally delegated powers to the LGB, and set out how the LGB should operate, including the requirement for the LGB to meet at least three times in each school year. In addition to a formal termly meeting, other LGB meetings are called on an ad hoc basis. The LGB no longer operates with separate committees as it did prior to March 2017, since the LGB is now itself a committee of the GST.
